Often times I feel like I am not receiving what I desire from others because I am not willing to allow myself to be open enough to receiving. It's as if I have a little shop set up for people to come in and yet maintain locked doors.

Where Wisdom in Recovery Begins – Damascus Way Recovery
I was uncomfortable with the idea of fearing God. I defended Him as One whose love is so great He needs not be feared. This was based on my own understanding of 1 John 4:18: “Perfect love drives out fear.” Today, I have come to understand that when the scriptures calls our attention to fear… Continue reading Where Wisdom in Recovery Begins – Damascus Way Recovery
A Vibrant Fellowship Is Needed – Damascus Way Recovery
Over the years I have attended a variety of men’s fellowship groups within the Christian Faith. Some were quite small while others boast a good following. Some of these groups appeared to have died down and were no longer meeting. It was not until I stepped into a fellowship of those engaged in their own… Continue reading A Vibrant Fellowship Is Needed – Damascus Way Recovery
A Vibrant Fellowship Is Needed
For me, the lack of discipleship within these certain Christian fellowships lacked a program to foster spiritual growth on a person's spiritual journey in faith. Christians boast that such a lifestyle is a faith based on a relationship with Jesus Christ. A fellowship of believers. Yet many fail to nourish those new to the faith and therefore many no longer attend services or ministry programs. Yet one walks into the fellowship rooms of recovery and there they are nourished by many stories of victory and endurance of faith, power of restoration, and healing. Not just in the rooms themselves, but in connection and fellowship through individual relationship and fellowship of mentoring, discipleship, and sponsoring those still suffering and struggling.
I Need Fellowship for Growth
hrough Christ, I faithfully know that I am able to do something. To rise up and shake off the dust and come out of obscurity each and every day. Now that I am living a mindful Christian life I realize I am not alone. God did not create me to be alone. Therefore, as the Apostle teaches, I am not to keep myself from the fellowship of others (as many today have given themselves over). Without fellowship - I have no one to turn to when I fall. I need others to lift me up as I am there to lift others.
Recovery requires to live as though nothing else matters
Authentic recovery separates those who are being in recovery and those who are doing recovery. Much like the Christian faith - this means an individual cannot escape their Garden of Gethsemane. We are tasked to experience the painful awareness of our behaviors that were the results of our dependence on substances, sex, food, gambling, et al. It is the painful process of moving toward the new life. Putting to death the old man in order to rise up with a newness of life. Unfortunately, many rather be in recovery instead of actually doing recovery.
Deep Inner Work is the Heart of Christian based Recovery
Where it all begins One of the most beautiful passages of scripture is that of John 3:18-21. Jesus is conversing with Nicodemus. In this conversation, we are intimately taught that Christ is the light that has come into the world. Yet, many of us rather remain in the darkness, avoiding the light. Because we remain… Continue reading Deep Inner Work is the Heart of Christian based Recovery
Do Not Forsake the Fellowship of Others
not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10:25, ESV ~ In recovery, we learn the importance of the fellowship we have with other people. Many lessons are learned from hearing the story of other's… Continue reading Do Not Forsake the Fellowship of Others
