Understand the Vision of Enoch as it Pertains to the Second Coming
And it came to pass that Enoch saw the day of the coming of the Son of Man, in the last days, to dwell on the earth in righteousness for the space of a thousand years.
~ Moses 7:65 ~
For those who have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to feel, more than ever before we are required to confront the reality that we are getting ever closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. True, great difficulties yet await those on the earth at His return, but in this regard, the faithful need not fear.
~ Elder Christoffel Golden – Preparing for the Second Coming of Christ – October 2021 ~
In Word: Among the general Christian faithful – there is trepidation and call to prepare our hearts and minds. To be ready for that day when the Lord shall come again. More specifically, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we know that such a day will be one of blessing, hope, and peace. Much work will be done in the coming millennium of Christ’ reign and peace. The Savior will once again be upon this earth. However – scripture also calls it the great and dreadful day of the Lord (Joel 2:31 and Malachi 4:5).
John, writing unto the 7 churches, reveals several judgments, catastrophic natural disasters, and the rise of widespread apostasy and persecution. And it is the one prominent teaching that appears to have received much scholarly research and debate over. For us, we come to understand Enoch’s simple vision. Christ will come and dwell on earth in righteousness. Today, we are asked to prepare our hearts and our minds to be ready when that day shall come. And it will come as a thief in the night (2 Peter 3:10). For us – we look toward the peace and the glory of His return.
In Deed: This is the time for each of us to prepare ourselves to meet God. It is the hope and fulfillment that through Jesus Christ, our faith in Him, enduring to the end, we shall overcome and be granted a glorious inheritance. All we are called to do is to bring forth fruits unto repentance (Matthew 3:8). And it is through sincere repentance that we may experience the mercy and grace of God (Alma 12:34) where we will rest in His care. Through repentance, we walk in humility and obedience to the commandments of our Heavenly Father. Through Christ, we shall inherit immortality and eternal life. This is because of our faithfulness toward God. May we live our lives so that we are able to say, with the Apostle Paul, that we have fought the good fight, finished the course, kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
Take a Moment and Ponder: We have a divine destiny that is part of our Heavenly Father’s Plan. His desire, His purpose, His love toward each one of us is consumed within that plan of happiness. For unto us – it is God’s purpose to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man (Moses 1:39). What blessings do you find in Enoch’s Vision that brings comfort and peace into your heart and mind? What warnings do you see within Enoch’s vision? How does this compare to the rest of scriptures that reveal to us God’s call to repent? What areas in your life are you still struggling to give over to our Heavenly Father? What conviction is the Holy Spirit giving you to seek forgiveness, to repent, and to place your feet back on the path of righteousness?
Living true to the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, loving God, loving others, and serving with a heart and mind that is humble and willing gives us the encouragement and strength needed to live out our days. There is great hope in looking forward to the Saviors return. Yet, we also know that there is much that we are called upon to endure. Where is your present faith in Christ?
