Understand Christ’s Foreordination and Sacred Role as Redeemer and Savior of Humanity
“But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was my Beloved and Chosen from the beginning, said unto me—Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.”

“And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me.”

In Word: The central and sacred truth of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is centered upon Jesus Christ and the salvation and eternal life of humanity. From modern day revelation – we learn that Christ was chosen and foreordained to be the mediator and redeemer of humanity. Within this plan of salvation included our personal moral agency. Our ability to choose whether we are willing to follow the teachings and example of our Savior in this life. For those who choose rightly will inherit the blessed hope of salvation, eternal life, and exaltation. For those who are tempted, deceived, and fall away will be judged according to their own personal folly and deeds. For Christ, his plan was to give our Heavenly Father the glory in fulfilling his mission and ministry. This is evident in John 17 where Christ prays: “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” (John 17:2-3).
Like Jesus Christ, we too existed with our Heavenly Father. We find this truth in Job 38: “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. … When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4, 6). We shouted for joy because of the plan of salvation our Heavenly Father put forth. We shouted for Joy when Jesus Christ stepped forward and said – “Here I am, send me.” Our Savior was willing to come to earth, take upon himself our sins and transgressions, suffer humiliation through scourging, be lifted up on a cross and crucified. All culminating in His resurrection from the dead so that we may too be resurrected into immortality.
In Deed: Through Jesus Christ, modern day revelation, and scriptural truth – we learn that Christ was chosen to fulfill God’s purpose. And it is through Christ we are given instructions on how-to walk-in humility and obedience to the principal truths of the Gospel. This moral agency provides us an opportunity to choose for ourselves whether we are or are not willing and committed to coming unto Christ and following Him. It is the invitation that each one of us is invited to take seriously. Are we willing to be baptized in the baptism of Christ? Are we willing to drink from the cup the Savior drank from? (Matthew 20:20-23; Mark 10:35-45). Are we willing to say, “Here I am, send me” to minister and bring hope and salvation to others suffering and struggling in this life? As true disciples of Jesus Christ, we are not only commanded to take up our cross daily, we are to also go out and preach the gospel, calling all unto repentance, calling them forth to the waters of baptism, and to teach them all things Christ has taught and commanded us (Matthew 28:16-20). Another aspect of our covenant with the Savior is to mourn with those who mourn, comfort those who stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of Jesus Christ and who God is at all times? (Mosiah 18:9).
Take a Moment and Ponder: Understanding the sacred truth of Christ’s foreordination as Savior is important to our testimony and faith.

- How liberating is it to know that you have the freedom and liberty to choose for yourself whether you are willing and committed to following Christ and his teachings?
The invitation is open for you to seek God’s wisdom and spiritual truths in order to find meaning and purpose in your own life. All of us chose to follow the Savior in the premortal life. It is up to us to choose to follow him and his teachings in this life.
