Understand the Importance and Significance of Personal Revelation
Personal revelation is the way we know for ourselves the most important truths of our existence.
~ Robert D. Hales: Personal Revelation – The Teachings and Examples of the Prophets ~
In Word: It is said that we are quite possibly living in the last days and that this is evident of our perilous times we seemed to be facing. There is a growing dread among the hearts of all individuals – including those of a Christian belief. Yet we stand with the knowledge and awareness that each one of us has an opportune to not only seek after God but to also Hear his voice and receive spiritual guidance in all affairs of our lives. Only requirement is for us to do so with humility, contrition of spirit, and in solemn worship and truth.
For me, personal revelation is that of a lighthouse. In the calmness of days and nights the lighthouse operates to safely guide ships. Alerting sea captains of potential danger that otherwise may go unseen. However, it is during those storms when the tempest is raging, the waves clashing, and dark clouds hang o’er our heads the Lighthouse becomes the only beacon of hope and guidance. Staring out into the gusts and blistering rain, a seasoned Captain knows to keep his eyes fixed upon the sustaining illumination that provides safe passage.
Seeking after personal and divine revelation is our way of searching the horizon for God’s divine wisdom, counsel, and safe passage. It is our pillar of cloud by day and our pillar of fire by night (See, Exodus 13:21-22). It never departs from us and is a constant reminder that our Heavenly Father is always with us – never forsaking us.
In Deed: It is vitally important that we prepare ourselves spiritually by purifying our hearts before God, study and ponder the scriptures, and to humbly seek Him. Through the power and authority of the Holy Spirit, our Heavenly Father will reveal unto each one of us that which we may desire. Through personal revelation, we come to know our Heavenly Father, know Jesus Christ whom he has sent, increase our faith and testimony in the Gospel that has been restored in these last days, and find everlasting peace, joy and happiness through the plan of Salvation. And where we begin is to prayerfully study the Old Testament and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to illuminate the pure truths and pure doctrines of Jesus Christ. To reveal unto each of us those things that we are able to take away and apply into our daily lives.
Take a Moment and Ponder: As you search the scriptures and seek for personal revelation from our Heavenly Father; reflect upon the following questions:
- Where in my life do I feel lost, confused, or feel hazy and foggy?
- How will seeking after personal revelation help guide me back to the safety and refuge of my Heavenly Father?
- How is the Old Testament like a lighthouse unto me?
- What messages do I feel I need to hear and apply into my life?
Through our journey, let us find those hidden gems of truth, doctrine, and be worthy through sincere humility to receive personal revelation. As you seek to understand the scriptures. Develop an awareness to meditate and hear God’s voice. And strive to learn from and apply the scriptures to your own personal life. The blessings of heaven will be open, and our Heavenly Father will speak unto you – as he has spoken unto many men and women who have come before.
