No Longer Engaged in Worry

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
~ Matthew 6:34 ~

~ 3 Nephi 13:34 ~

As you define your goals and plan for their achievement, ponder the thought: The past is behind—learn from it; the future is ahead—prepare for it; the present is here—live in it.
~ Thomas S. Monson – Go For It! April 1989 General Conference ~

I used to spend a great deal of time and energy worrying about what the future may hold. Worried too often about my own past. The burden of disappointments, missed opportunities. Fear seeped in and festered and fermented. It took some time, and various schoolyard hardships, for me to come to realize the spiritual truths of the Saviors words. Who knows whether tomorrow will be good or not. Yet, I lived a life caring far too much about it. More oft than not, I always expected the worst.

Living a mindful and enriching spiritual Christian life has taught me one fundamental truth. It is a life that is lived twenty-four hours a day. This brings sweet comfort and assurance that I need to not burden myself with the woes of the past. Nor anticipate those that may come in the future.

I will keep always in mind that today is my sole concern and that I will make it as good a day as I am able to. This one small span of time is mine, and I will use it to do the things that need doing, and have a little time over for enjoyment and reflection.

Living one day at a time, and consciously dividing my time into useful and satisfying activities, can give me the variety that is said to be the spice of life. This is the added benefit of keeping my mind off my problems, which often proves the easiest and most logical way to solve them!

Go for living for today. Establish those goals. Do not worry about what has transpired. All I am able to do is learn from it and move forward. And while I may prepare for the future – it is the present moment where I live and experience life.

TODAY’S PRAYER AND MEDITATION

Heavenly Father, I am committed to make this day a happy one. So long as I am mindful and willing to submit myself over to your will and meditate on those things needing my attention. Recognizing that the past is behind me and no longer has any influence over me. The future is ahead and that my plans I commit over to you (Proverbs 16:3) for by doing so you will guide me into understanding, wisdom, and give me of what I need that is sufficient for today. In Jesus Name, Amen
