Why am I a Mindful Christian?

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
~ Matthew 11:28-29 ~

One way we find peace in following Christ is in living the attributes He exemplified. Most Christians are familiar with the attributes of Jesus Christ as reported in the Bible. They marvel at the love He demonstrated for the poor, the sick, and the downtrodden. Those who consider themselves His disciples also strive to emulate His example and follow His beloved Apostle’s exhortation: “Let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. . . . For God is love.”
~ President Russell M. Nelson: Three Ways to Find Peace in Christ ~

Why did I come to Christ? I’d like to believe it was out of desperation. Perhaps because of loneliness and emptiness was the reason I came to seek after Christ. Or it may very well may be due to my bewilderment and sense of feeling overwhelmed with problems and sick of suffering without hope.

The important thing to consider is this: Am I desperate enough to seek Christ every day? To come unto Him and follow His example? I may not have believed there was anything wrong with me at the time I came to my Savior. My motivation from coming unto Christ was to change others and be rescued from the storms of my life. The Lord changed my way of thinking and helped me realize that through Him, I needed to change.

If I truly wanted to come unto Christ and follow after Him and desire a new life, I had to first look deep within myself and admit my own shortcomings. Why did I become a Christian? Because I realized my desperate need for change and how burdened I was laboring in my own suffering. Coming unto Christ and following him truly set me free and I have since found rest, peace of mind, and courage to face my own personal struggles. There is hope when each one of us come to the Redeemer with desperation and brokenness and desire to change.

Heavenly Father, I came to seek peace of mind. To seek comfort. I sought after a new way of living life. Through your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, I have come to find rest. I came out of desperation and with a broken and lost life. A life you took and gracefully restored. Keep me on the path of righteousness as I continue to come unto Christ daily and follow His example. In Jesus Name, Amen.
