For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
~ 2 Timothy 1:7 ~

Beware of surrender that is motivated by personal benefits that may result. For example, “I’m going to give myself to God because I want to be delivered from sin, because I want to be made holy.” Being delivered from sin and being made holy are the result of being right with God, but surrender resulting from this kind of thinking is certainly not the true nature of Christianity. Our motive for surrender should not be for any personal gain at all. We have become so self-centered that we go to God only for something from Him, and not for God Himself. It is like saying, “No, Lord, I don’t want you; I want myself. But I do want You to clean me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I want to be on display in Your showcase so I can say, ‘This is what God has done for me.’ ” Gaining heaven, being delivered from sin, and being made useful to God are things that should never even be a consideration in real surrender. Genuine total surrender is a personal sovereign preference for Jesus Christ Himself.
~ Total Surrender by Oswald Chambers | My Utmost For His Highest ~

I have met many individuals who have held a long time belief in God and Christ. Many of these people have observed those who are new to the Christian faith grasp the reality of a relationship with Jesus Christ with readiness. Others were seen to attempt, with grim determination, to make their own way as part of their own faith. I have also met those who have fallen away from the faith due to their attempt to make it on their own and not fully given themselves over to God.

Faith in Jesus Christ helps me to focus on my relationship with God with more confidence and expectations. For those who have lost their faith, or who have always had to struggle along without it, it is often helpful just to accept the reality of our need for Jesus. This does not mean we need to be convinced or believe in all that Scripture teaches. All we need to commit ourselves over is the willingness to believe and trust in God. Gradually will our awareness of God’s grace will empower us to move from faith to faith.

Real authentic surrender means that we give ourselves over in trust and confidence to God. Expecting upon his promises and blessings. This very act of surrender to God who is wiser and more powerful than I is able to help bring order into my life. It serves as a steadying influence and constant guide to right decisions.

Today’s Prayer and Meditation

Heavenly Father, renew my faith and willingness to surrender unto you all. Help me identify those things in my life that I need to forsake and come unto you. I do this as I recognize that I need to take up my cross and follow you. Walk in your light and truth. By obedience to your will shall I be encouraged. Through you I shall have power and confidence. Build me up with unshakeable faith as I surrender my life and will into your hands. For your will and my hands may accomplish your purpose and work. In Jesus Name, Amen
