Walk in a Spirit of Edifying Others

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
~ Ephesians 4:29, KJV ~

I am not able to hurt others without first hurting myself. This is a compelling reason for taking responsibility for my own thoughts before speaking out and use unkind words that may set off the impulse to say something unkind. Being mindful before erupting in verbal blows toward others.

While it may be a momentary release for me, my words return to increase the discomfort I’m already experiencing. Impatience with others only generates impatience with me. Impulsive criticism may affect my ability to cultivate healthy and meaningful relationships where I depend on support and growth.

If only I am able to learn to quiet my mind before I speak! I do not want to act impatience and hostility, for I know it will react on me. It is a mistake to think that this requires self-control as patience may be acquired by learning to let go of my own self-will and operate under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Today’s prayer and meditation

Heavenly Father, through your Spirit I am able to be aware of my own thoughts and emotions. Help me better my communication with others so that I walk in edifying them rather than speaking hurtful and unkind words that may strain my relationships. For I am a reflection of you and Jesus Christ. Bring awareness to where I may speak that ministers to others as your spirit ministers to me in lifting them up. In Jesus Name, Amen.
