Come Follow Me, Come Unto Christ, Devotional

Called to Persevere

Whatever the circumstance — and we all have difficult, unique ones — it’s easy to become discouraged. It’s easy to think, “This is never going to get better; this is never going to become less miserable or less hard.” It’s easy to give up: to stop fighting, to stop praying, to stop trying.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
~ Philippians 3:13-14, KJV ~

Jesus Christ is the example of perseverance in this life. He is too whom we look toward. A well-lived Christian life is one that is determined, intentional, and purposeful. One that perseveres through all and receives the blessings and crown of righteousness. As our Savior, he lived his life with full adoration toward the Father. Walking in humility and obedience to the will of the Father. Even in the Garden of Gethsemane, he committed himself to God’s providential and sovereign will. While on the Cross, he committed himself into the hands of the Father. He rose with a resurrected and glorified body of flesh and bones. He finished what he set out to do. He lived a life with intention, with purpose, and with meaning. He held a steadfast faithfulness to the Father.

We are called to persevere as Christ has persevered. As Christians, we face our hardships with faithfulness that God will empower us to overcome. We are strengthened by God’s grace and mercy. And, if our prayers seemed to go answered. If it seems God is silent in those times we are facing hardships. We are asked to continue to live according to His will and teachings.

No matter what situation you are facing today – God will strengthen you and empower you to persevere. We keep the faith, moving forward, our eyes fixed on the prize of the high calling of God that is through Jesus Christ.

~ Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~

Heavenly Father, guide me and strengthen me in those times of troubles that I face. Lift me up when I feel broken and lost. Empower me with the courage and wisdom to find peace and comfort amidst those storms. I walk faithfully according to your will and divine grace. You are my light and my iron rod that leads me to the Tree of Life. Let me press forward and faithfully amidst the distractions and ridicule of the world. For I am focused on the reward and crown of righteousness awaiting me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
