From LDS Daily – Spiritually Mature Obedience by Aleah Ingram, April 2019
~ August 5, 2020 Evening Devotion ~
And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee
~ Deuteronomy 30:2-3, KJV ~
Our world is in social upheaval and chaos today. Temptations abound without moral restraint. Distractions are quite numerous. It has become easy to find more opportunities to walk in disobedience to God’s teachings and commandments. Yet, if we are to seek out ways to be Godly role models for our families and communities, we must return our thoughts and hearts away from the cares of this world. We turn toward God and face Him.
Today, there are many that talk about God. This is the easy part. It is easy to declare yourself to be a Christian. It is easy to live according to your will and way of thinking. However, when we truly live by God’s divine laws – that becomes quite troublesome. No wonder many Christians have watered down the Gospel message. No wonder many Christians evangelize cheap grace. No wonder has the message of the Cross been more foolishly stripped of its power and authority. For Godly men and women of integrity to live righteously and obediently to God is offensive to those who live according to the cares and dictates of their mindset.
How do we proclaim the truth of the Cross and the infinite atonement of Jesus Christ to those who are lost in a world that grows darker each passing day? Through our obedience to Jesus Christ and Christ alone. Being obedient means we trust in His counsel and wisdom and not the counsel and wisdom of the world.
Let us, therefore, invite our Heavenly Father into our hearts and live according to His established commandments and teachings. As we do, we shall continue to be a light of the world, a salt that has not lost its flavor, and a beacon of hope in the failing hearts of men everywhere. We are blessed no matter how much evil prevails. We have a greater glory awaiting us.
~Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~
Heavenly Father, the days are drawing closer and closer. The hearts of men are failing and evil appears to be growing powerful. I turn to you for grace, mercy, and truth. I commit myself into your care and strive to walk with obedience to your teachings and commandments. Bless me and continue to led me. Allow me to have compassion on those who are lost and need your comforting grace. Guide me and show me thy way each day of my life. Help me focus on you and you alone and not the cares of this world. In Jesus Name, Amen.
