A Cheerful and Happy Heart

~ August 5, 2020 – Morning Devotioinal ~

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
~ Proverbs 15:3, KJV ~

Living a spiritually mindful Christian life helps us understand the greatest gift our Heavenly Father has bestowed upon us. The ability to enjoy life. Ability to laugh. Yet, we tend to live by our broken spirit. We have not fully embraced the healing oil of Christ’s infinite atonement. The inevitable stressors of everyday life seem to diminish our ability to experience joy, laughter, and genuine happiness. God has given us every reason to experience authentic joy and happiness. We are called to be cheerful and thankful. God’s blessings come upon us without measure. His love and grace causes our cups to runneth over. Through God’s gift of salvation and eternal life brings us into a place of true worship and happiness.

Yet, how are we to continue living life without experiencing this abundance of joy? How are we causing ourselves to live in the brokenness that Chris rescued us from? Not only are we redeemed. We are cleansed, healed, and made anew in Christ’s image. And, yes, there are times when we shall mourn. Mourn with others. Mourn for ourselves. Despite those times, we always find something to laugh about, to be of good cheer. Let us remember to laugh and to love. For this makes a merry heart and a cheerful countenance.

~Today’s Prayer and Mediation ~

Heavenly Father, as I live my life in your grace and divine will let me laugh. Help me slow down and not rush so that I may experience all of your creation. Allow me to stand in awe of your divine splendour and grace. Let my smile reflect the light and love of Christ so that it is infectious toward others who are burdened and weighted down by the cares of this world. Let me share my smile and happiness with others so that they too may find joy in your Grace, Truth, and Peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus Christ, Amen.
