Lending a Helping Hand

~July 7, 2020 – Morning Devotion ~

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went unto him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest, when I come again, I will repay thee. ~ Luke 10:33-35, KJV ~

Jesus shared the parable of the Good Samaritan, a man who helped another fellow traveler when no other person was willing. His instructions were clear. Like the disciples, we ask: Who is our neighbor? Christ’s response – those who stand in need. Those who are broken. The marginalized. The one’s suffering and perishing. These are our neighbors. They are those individuals that Christ may send into our lives to bless. And, when things happen, we are called to step up to the plate and do something to bring peace, comfort, and show God’s divine mercy and love.

What are you being called to do? How are you to minister to those in need within your Church, community, workplace, neighborhood? Share kind words, preform good deeds out of the kindness of your heart and take your concerns to the Lord in prayer. It’s never enough to offer a statement of, I will pray that God’s will be done. God’s will is for us to rise up and serve one another. We are called to lend a helping hand – especially in our society today.

~ Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~

Heavenly Father, help me serve those in need and bring comfort into their lives. Let me be a blessing to them who are downtrodden so that they may have a taste of your love, mercy, and grace. Let me be the source of their comfort for today. And, I do this in the remembrance of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
