Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase
~Proverbs 3:9-10~
Scripture reveals a cold harsh truth. For the love of money is the root of all evil (see, 1 Timothy 6:10). The rich young ruler kept all the commandments. Yet, when asked to give all of his treasure to the poor, he turned away from the Redeemer. The widow giving all that she had when those who were affluent gave a small portion out of their abundance. The Christian disciple is on a quest. This quest includes financial security where a person is led across different peaks and valleys. It is easy for us to praise God with gifts of thanksgiving – as we are standing on our achievements and attainments. Yet, when those disappointments come and we are experiencing financial hardship, it seems we struggle to praise God – to honor Him. To trust in His divine goodness, grace, and mercy.
We either honor God through our tithes and offerings – or we love money more than we love God
Christ taught us that we are only capable of serving one master. Our love for money puts us at enmity with God. We are like Cain, making an afterthought offering and become jealous and enraged when other Christians are being blessed and secure because of their sacrifice and offerings were that of Abel. It is when we love God, we honor him of giving up a portion of our finances. It is the love of God that we are able to provide offerings to help those in need.
When we trust in God’s abundant promises, He is faithful in fulfilling them. Let us strive to honor God through our giving and sacrifice of tithes and offerings. Leaning upon God and His promises. Trusting in Jesus Christ. We bring to remembrance how God is sovereign in protecting us. We bring remembrance to how God is near to us and delivers us.
~Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~
Heavenly Father, teach me the eternal principle of providing tithes and offerings as I walk in obedience to your word and truth. Bless me as I trust in you and your promises. Help me see the security that is only found in following your sovereign will and desire. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Yes Father, I do not know how, you will do this, I see to just trust you in showing me this. Thank you.
When you said to that rich man to sell all he owned and give that to the poor, then take up your cross and follow you, what does that mean, is that literal?
Or am I to be ready in season and out of season to give as led from God himself?
Is it to giver just money or time to others in listening, and not trying to fix them?
To me, 2 Cor, 8,9,10 explain Tithing to me over offerings
Tithing is 10% where as offering is not limited to just ten percent. So give by being willing to give, and that might be more than money, when mostly, I see we as people need to be heard, giving God that credit to be heard. For this I know, when I am heard, without being interrupted, I hear what to do as an answer from with in, as long as I have vented and not interrupted when I am venting out my troubles
Ever been venting and gotten interrupted? Me Too, it is like throwing up, and afterwards, someone interrupts it, and so you suck back up, what you were trying to get rid of.
At least this be what I am seeing, after going through learning this truth, from another person that taught this
Thanking God for that
Love to all
