~ June 16, 2020 – Evening Devotional ~
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me
~ Hebrews 13:5-6, KJV ~
It is through Christ’s infinite and profound atonement that we are able to come to a place where we place our hope and trust in God. This hope and trust provides for us an assurance for whatever challenges may lay ahead in our spiritual journey. We may face desperate circumstances. Personal adversity. And seemingly impossible social upheavals to contend with. Yet, He is faithful toward us because he has called us into a fellowship with his Son – Jesus Christ (See, 1 Corinthians 1:9, paraphrased). And, his promise stands to protect us and strengthen us (See, 2 Thessalonians 3:3).
Our duty, and obligation, is to summon the courage it takes to follow God. Despite the difficulty and fearfulness of the path. When we trust our Heavenly Father and follow His Son, Jesus Christ, we are promised not to be led astray. All we do is muster the courage to engage in His work, care for those around us, share the power of Christ’s atonement with others, and maintain a steadfast faith in our spiritual journey.
We get sidetracked by submitting to temptations that divert us past the bounds of safety. Satan knows our weaknesses. He puts attractive snares on our paths at just those moments when we are most vulnerable. His intent is to lead us from the way that returns us to our Heavenly Father. Sin may result from activities that begin innocently or that are perfectly legitimate in moderation, but in excess they can cause us to veer from the straight and narrow path to our destruction.
Joseph B. Worthlin – The Strait and Narrow Way
When we are led astray, it is because of our doubts, our fears, and our lack of courage and faithlessness in God’s promises and ability to empower us. Our hearts fail us daily. God’s love and devotion toward our spiritual perfection endures. This is the reason we are strengthened every day. Let us take time to meditate on the gift of God’s grace, love, and mercy on our lives. Let us take courage for our spiritual journey.
~Today’s Prayer and Meditation ~
Heavenly Father, I lean upon you. I seek refuge in times of distress, fear, and distress. Keep me mindful that you are the strength and shield I need to face those challenges along the strait and narrow path you’ve called me to traverse. I fear nothing with you by my side. I am grateful for the infinite atonement through Jesus Christ and continually stand amazed at the love you have offered me through the priceless gift of His sacrifice. Encourage me to continue with my spiritual journey where I am grateful and courageous in serving you throughout my days.
