We wrestle with God

Today’s reading: Gen 31-32:32; Ps. 8:6-9; Prov. 3:19-20; Matt. 11:1-30

You have striven with God and with men and have prevailed

What does it mean to striven? It means to contend, persist, exert oneself, persevere. In our daily walk with God, we are called to continually wrestle with our own humanity. By wrestling with our own humanity, we also come to wrestle with God himself. This begins when we come to realize that our own scheming for blessings brings us further from God’s will and desire. We begin to learn that it is far better to allow God to bless us according to His desire and will.

In our contending with God, and man, we also come to realize the gentleness of our Heavenly Father. Not only His gentleness, we also realize He is just and strong. God is perfect in all things and in all ways. And, through His Holy Spirit, we draw from this well.

It is the very yoke that we take upon ourselves. A place in the divine relationship where we find rest, strength, and power. He refreshes our weary souls. Strengthens us in our weaknesses. Our daily wrestle with God continues to transform us into the image of Christ.
