Genuine and authentic repentance

but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.

When we turn from our shipwrecked lives. When we turn toward a Sovereign and Divine Heavenly Father. What we find is genuine and real forgiveness. His forgiveness is radical and absolute. Our repentance requires a radical and absolute turning away from our past life. It is more than offering apologies for our wrongdoings. Genuine repentance begins when we are contrite and brokenhearted. This is our sacrifice to God (see Psalm 51:17).

True and genuine repentance is to experience Godly sorrow (see 2 Corinthians 7:10). This begins when we take an honest and fearless inventory of who we are. To understand our deep need for Christ’s forgiveness.  Our desire to be cleansed from sin is ever consuming where our hearts ache with sorrow. We yearn to feel at peace with our Heavenly Father. We become willing to do anything our Father asks of us.

It also produces the desire to no longer participate in those activities. We are not resistant, nor resenting our need to turn from our old ways. Instead, we turn to walk in God’s will for our own life. Through the power of God’s infinite atonement, we are justified and are sanctified.

We make the commitment to turn our life and will over to God. To repent of our own ways and seek to live according to His divine will.
