Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
~ Ephesians 4:31-32, ESV ~
The greatest obstacle to serenity, happiness, and successful recovery is being stuck in the mire of bitterness, resentment, and regret. How much time are we wasting as we continue to walk in unforgiveness? Are you still anger focused on the past?
The act of forgiveness is a difficult for us. We are fallible, frail, and imperfect individuals. We are quick to anger. Quick to blame. Slow to forgive. And, even slower to forget. Yet, recovery requires that we not only forgive others, we are to forgive ourselves.
Are there people whom you harbor bitterness toward? It’s time to make a radical shift in genuine forgiveness. Do you hold bitterness toward self because of your own past failings? It’s time to forgive yourself and work to move forward in God’s sovereign Grace. God’s plan is that we free ourselves from the chains of hatred, bitterness, and regret. These are not His plans and desire for us. His desire and plan is for us to forgive ourselves and others.
