Recovery is a journey toward healing. It is a path one takes where it is a process of transformation. Yet, it is not a perfect journey. We tend to be wrapped up in the expectations of others. We want to prove ourselves to family, friends, and society. However, we fail to focus on the greater expectations of God’s eternal promises. We fail to seek the guidance and wisdom of God.
As we seek God’s sovereign grace and guidance, we focus our energies on becoming the best we are capable of being. Our approval comes from God and not those around us. Are you pleasing God or are you pleasing others today? Let our recovery be a primary obligation to strive diligently in meeting the expectations of a perfect, merciful, and Sovereign God. We place our trust in Him. Praise Him. Our choices reflect whether we are moving toward a sustaining life; or falling back into a life that is decaying and death.

I really liked your article. Your right – the focus needs to be on God not everyone else as someone is going through recovery.

It’s not easy because our natural tendency and desire is for others to support, respect, and encourage us. Yet, we become frustrated, angry, confused, and resentful when we feel others are not taking notice, or disrespecting us, or we feel ignored.
