The Courage to Live Boldly

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

My favorite Wizard of Oz character is the cowardly lion. We typically do not associate a lion with fear and cowardliness. Yet, he meets Dorothy, Tin Man and Strawman. Together, they are heading toward the Emerald City where they hope to receive their desired wants. The reality is, all of the characters had the means and empowerment to face their individual fears. The Cowardly lion was no exception.

We are either facing our fears or running from them. It takes a willingness and commitment to live courageously. The reality of truth is: We do not have to face our fears alone. When Paul wrote to Timothy, he was bringing to mind that God is bold and it is through God’s spirit that we are empowered. A path of recovery is a journey where a person faces uncertainty. We have our fears to contend with. Yet, through our relationship with God, we are capable of living boldly and courageously despite our fears.

As you face challenges in your own journey through recovery, remember, God is with you always.

Proverbs 17:12

Let a man meet a she-bear robbed of her cubs rather than a fool in his folly.
